Bewley Properties, Inc. is a diverse corporation with its primary focus in contract warehousing ; office complex and shopping center property management; and commercial real estate development. BPI conducts business primarily in the upper East Tennessee area, including in the counties of Greene, Washington, Sullivan, Cocke, and Hamblen. Bewley Properties, Inc. also has a focus in the automobile industry, with dealerships in Greeneville and Morristown, Tennessee and in Marshall, North Carolina.

Bewley Properties, Inc. started in 1980, by James Kent Bewley, with the founding of Bewley Oldsmobile Suburu. At the time, the company also had a focus in the tobacco warehousing industry. After the peak of the tobacco industry in the East Tennessee area, Mr. Bewley and his father, Roswell R. Bewley converted the use of the warehouses to contract storage, rental, and product handling.

Meet The Staff

Kent Bewley, President

Kent Bewley is President and CEO of Bewley Properties, Inc. and believes that good employess and diversification have always been the key strengths for the business he founded 27 years ago. The company is involved in real estate development and property management and the automobile business, as well as contract and commerical warehousing. The son of the late Roswell and Eugenia Bewley, he built upon the base created by his father in the car business and tobacco warehousing business and expanded the business into its current five-county (Greene, Hamblen, Cocke, and Sullivan Counties in Tennessee and Madison County, North Carolina) operation. Bewley graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He entered the United States Army upon graduation from UT and spent 10 years in the Army Reserve, retiring as a captain.

In addition to Bewley Properties, Bewley is also President of Morristown Chevrolet-Buick, Inc.; President of Carolina Chevrolet, Inc.; Chairman of Heritage Community Bank; a stockholder and officer in Mountain Mazda Mitsubishi, Inc., Lawson Chevrolet, Inc. and Gateway Ford-Lincoln Mercury, Inc. and a partner in Bewley Warehouses and Towne Square Shopping Center.

Bewley's community and civic involvements are as diverse as his business interests. He is a board member of Junior Achievement of Greeneville/Greene County and a classroom volunteer at Greeneville High School. He is a board member of regional Junior Achievement, East Tennessee State University Foundation, Takoma Hospital Foundation, a member of the Board of Trustees of Link Hills Country Club, Holston Home for Children, Greene County Foundation, University of Tennessee Development Council, Tennessee Motos Vehicle Commission and the UT College of Business Administration Advisory Council. He is past Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Holston United Methodist Home for Children. Among the numerous awards Bewley has received for his volunteer efforts for Holston Home is the 2003 National Trustee of the Year Award presented by the nationwide United Methodist Association of Health and Welfare Ministries and the Mountain Empire Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professional's "Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser." Some of his other honors include being named an East Tennessee Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame Laureate; and the Greene County Partnership Award and Tennessee Historical Commission Certificate of Merit (in recognition of his efforts to restore Crescent School).



Kandice D. Bewley, Vice-President

Kandice Bewley has been with Bewley Properties, Inc. since May 2002. Kandice's main roles in the company are as a Developer and Construction Manager of commercial projects, and as Property Manager and Leasing Agent of three office complexes and a 140,000 square foot retail shopping center. Kandice is currently over development of Bewley Properties' Towne Crossing development in Greeneville, Tennessee, and most recently was in charge of construction of an 8 screen movie theather (Phoenix Theatre's Towne Crossing 8) on the development. Kandice's company, DeMille Development, LLC, will begin construction of The Shoppes at Towne Crossing, an 18,000 square foot shopping center (in the Towne Crossing Development) in spring of 2007. In addition, Kandice is a partner in Carolina Chevrolet, Inc. in Marshall, North Carolina and in B.A.K. Management, LLC in Newport, Tennessee.

Kandice graduated in 2001 from the University of Tennessee College of Law with her Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree and in 1997 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business/Marketing. She previously worked for Senator Fred Thompson in Washington, D.C in 2001-2002 and as a law clerk for the law firms of Hodges, Doughty and Carson, PLLC and Long, Ragsdale & Waters, PLLC in Knoxville, Tennessee from 1998-2001.

Kandice serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Heritage Community Bank in Greeneville, Tennessee, and as a Board Member for Junior Achievement of East Tennessee, the Junior League of Knoxville Associate Board and the University of Tennessee Alumni Band Board, all in Knoxville, Tennessee.



Brenda R. West, Corporate Secretary

Brenda West has been with Bewley Properties, Inc. since its establishment in 1980. Brenda's main roles in the company are as Office Manager, Chief Financial Officer and in Human Resources.

Brenda graduated from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting/Business Administration.

Brenda is a 32-year member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International, a premier women's leadership, service organization. Currently, she is serving as International Council President. Brenda is a former member of the Jaycees and was elected to the Outstanding Young Women of America and Who's Who of American Women.
